History

A history of the Christian Mission (from now on KM) Maranatha began sometime in the spring of 2004 in Ostrava. One of the brothers in the church “The Christian Mission Ostrava” (falling under the authority of the pastor Ron Jonsa from Victory World Outreach in Colorado Springs) Milan Dunka suggested that it would be good to go and preach the Gospel to Slovakia, more precisely to Porac, where he was born and grew up. He believed in what he also prayed, that aslo in Slovakia people can be saved through the preached Word and the good news of the Gospel. Steadfastly we prayed and waited for the right time, when we would go there.

When the right time came, we traveled there just to look and map the situation. We visited the family of our brother in Christ – Milan Dunk family. Thanks to openness and hunger for the Word of God, which we preached just near a meadow, about 50-60 people responded on the Good News about Christ. We considere that a miracle and we clearly saw that God calls us to work here in Slovakia.

On the same day we went to another place to Petoracké (part of Rudňany), where people also responded and many of them accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The same happened also in Markušovce and Bystrany and our mapping circle was completed by opening a new work for the Lord’s field in the Spis region.
Our return trip to Ostrava was full of joy as well as sadness. The joy of how Roma people have received the Good News, but sadness over the fact how Roma people live in Slovakia. Many times we cried even though we weren´t in Slovakia, but we have continualy seen the faces of children and responses to the Word of God.
It was decided. We will travel to Slovakia once in two weeks. Emil Adam led the team and work has begun to bring the harvest. We saw how God leads many to salvation, to change of life, to healing and liberation.
We stayed with the local families and those who received us took care of us with great love.
This is show we traveled for the whole nine months once in two weeks and always stayed only for two days. It was insufficient, because more and more people were surrendering life to God. Then the decision was made – to send missionaries from Ostrava – a pastor, someone who will permanently work with Roma people in Slovakia.
Then the pastor Mark Zechin and the pastor Oskar Najtem just saw that Adam Emil should be this person. Emil Adam gladly accepted this ministry and together with his wife and three children traveled to Slovakia. More precisely – he was sent in November 2004 and the family moved in January 2005.

Pastor Emil Adam considers 2005 as the year when he began work on Spiš full time even though in the beginning some brothers from Ostrava helped him by traveling from Ostrava back and forth.

Today we can see those amazing years of work, how many many people turned their lives to Christ, how many marriages has changed, what values were brought here to Spiš among Roma people. Since that time deacons were appointed into the ministry, and this ministry began also in other villages as Markušovce, Vikartovce, Richňava, Smižany, Letanovce, Spišský Štvrtok, Hranovnica, Teplička, Ľubica, Poprad, Veľký Slavkov, …

At first, the worship services were taking place at the Centre of Culture in Spišská Nová Ves, where Roma people traveled from different settlements all over the whole

Spiš.
Since 2010, we have leased an industrial hall, which has been gradually adapted to the needs of ministry, the stage was built, the space for children´s services and the space for youth meetings.
We have set up a new church in Poprad, where we leased space in an industrial building GIRTABO, where up to 400 people can meet.
Peter Pecha and his family were sent to Giraltovce and Humenné, where he has set up churches and he serves there with his wife. Today he is also active in Snina and around Stropkov.
Pastor Roman Pačan was sent to England in May 2010 with his wife and two children. He has set up churches in Sheffield and Peterboroug.
At the beginning of 2011, we started the work in Horehronie and Milan Vala with his Evangelistic group started to go to Závadka by Brezno with the Word of God.
Marian Ferenc was appointed a pastor in May 2011 and he was sent to Liptovský Mikuláš, where he has set up church immediately.

In September 2011 people from Kežmarok began to do a ministry in Dobšinská dolina and villages Dobšiná and Rojkov opened up for God’s Word.
But all this is just the beginning. Our vision is to continue setting up services in villages and churches in towns, preaching the Gospel, making disciples. We have faith that God wants to take over the whole Slovakia and we pray for this to happen.
After bad experiences with leasing rooms and buildings in Spiš we added a new vision – to have our own building. If you would like to support the work of God and help us to build our own building, click here.
God bless you.
